Summer Matters to Kids is a kit of materials designed to prevent learning loss over summer vacation. Summer vacation is an ideal time for students to reinforce the key academic skills they developed during the school year. Summer Matters to Kids is a kit of materials aligned to the core Math and English/Language Arts skills assessed on state tests. Using the program daily during the summer months keeps these key skills in place and reduces the need for reteaching at the beginning of the new school year. There are five versions of the kit appropriate for use between Kindergarten and Grade 1, Grade 1 and 2, Grade 2 and 3, Grade 3 and 4, and Grade 4 and 5. Each version contains these same core ingredients: 01Summer Workbook that reinforces the key tested Math and English/Language Arts Standards developed during the exiting grade. At your request, we will provide charts that correlate each workbook page with your state’s standards! 02Summer Journal that provides youngsters with opportunities to write for a variety of purposes (expository writing, descriptive writing, persuasive writing). Each writing activity begins with prompts that mirror those found on the state assessments. 03Caregiver Guide that lists answers to the Workbook pages. In addition, the back of the Guide details very basic activities that any adult could carry out at home to reinforce key academic skills. 04Calculator that can be used as a homework tool during the next school year. 05Fingerprint ID Kit Workbook Downloads Schools/districts that purchase kits for their students are assigned a password to our web site (www.summermatterstokids.com). Students can use the password to download additional worksheets that extend the academic content of the backpack materials. (For example, a crossword puzzle on the planets or a word search on countries of the world.) Ten new worksheets will be added to the site weekly from June through August for a total of 100 worksheets throughout the summer. Teachers may even download the worksheets to use as “fillers” during the academic year.TermsThe backpack kits are offered to schools/districts at the reduced cost of $20 per kit for the first 300 and $18 per each additional kit. There is no delivery or handling charges. We will deliver the order to one central location or split the order up into multiple locations. To facilitate distribution, the backpack kits are color-coded. All kindergarten materials are orange, first grade materials are light blue, second grade materials are green, third grade materials are red, and fourth grade materials are royal blue. Each shipped order includes a chart that notes this color-coding. |

Our summer school program was slashed due to budget cuts. Summer Matters to Kids filled the void. Our parents, teachers, and students are quite pleased with this type of "summer school to go"!
